And yes, my car was parked to the right of this car and I had to get in via my passenger-side door to leave my spot, thank you very much. Please note also that the next 3 spaces down to the left had no cars in them.

ACK! This has happened to me a few times and I have left on their windshields strongly worded notes regarding their parking ineptitude and apparent lack of spatial reasoning.
Try climbing over from the right side when attired in a skirt and heels. Not fun. Unless you're into that.
